Satisfy Your Senses with Ideal Sleeping Spaces

View of a Modern and Creative BedroomVital to getting a good night’s rest is a clean and comfortable bedroom. To feel truly at home as a renter, it is important to create a bedroom sanctuary of your own. Most people spend a lot of time – almost one-third of your life! – in their bedroom. Is your bedroom space of peace and relaxation? If not, then it’s time to fix that. There are a number of ways to change things up in your bedroom to turn it into something more than just a space for sleeping.

One thing to take note of, though, is that while a lot of bedroom updates require no landlord approval, there are a few that might. So, best to check with your landlord about it first. One of the best no-approval-required places to start to create a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing bedroom is with your bed. The quest towards a good night’s sleep begins in finding the best mattress, sheets, and pillows. Without these essentials, a good night’s rest might be hard to come by. A seven-year-old mattress is probably due for an upgrade. You can do this by adding a plush mattress topper, or just replacing the mattress with a new one. A good pillow is key to good sleep. If you feel like it no longer provides comfortable support for your head and neck, don’t hesitate to replace it. If you are currently using polyester sheets, consider switching to a nice cotton set, instead. Cotton breathes much better and can help keep you comfortable all night long.

Consequently, you can have the most comfortable bed inside of a cave and still not feel relaxed. Relaxation comes when a comfortable bed is found inside a bedroom that is pleasant and just as comfortable. Achieve an attractive and personalized space of your own by enhancing the appearance of your bedroom. If you have unused items or clutter, clear them out of the bedroom. A space that is clean and organized helps relieve stress. Sort your personal effects and place them neatly where they should be. An organized room promotes relaxation.

Let your personality shine through your room by decorating your space (even when you rent). Customize and organize — this is sure to give it a harmonious visual appeal. Adorn your walls with photos or artwork. By adding color and visual interest to your space, you let your creativity shine through. Further release your inner creativity by sprucing your bedroom with colorful bedspreads, heaps of pillows, or accent lamps. Don’t worry, these updates don’t require your landlord’s approval! If your bedroom has a large wall, try adding a colorful quilt or other items to add warmth and liven up your space. Make your living space stand out by adding simple yet intentional details to designated areas. Place a comfortable rug underneath the vanity or ditch those colorful curtains and replace them with neutral colored ones to give off a vibe of minimalist elegance. Really, the options are endless and they don’t have to expensive or permanent. Blackout curtains can help eliminate outside light while adding a houseplant can help freshen up the air.

Of course, there are more permanent ways to personalize a bedroom. However, landlord approval should be obtained in writing before attempting to do so. Such as, adding a simple border to your bedroom walls. Or even something more extensive like painting an accent wall or adding a chair rail and paneling. Other changes that entail more work are installing shelves and other fixtures on the walls. These aren’t quick and easy to implement so that means it might need approval from your landlord. These are just a few suggestions to help you reach your goal of building your ideal sleeping space. However, prior to committing to anything, remember to ask for permission. A good rule of thumb is that anything you add that cannot be easily removed, damage-free, generally requires pre-approval from your landlord first.

The last key to achieving maximum bedroom comfort is good ventilation and airflow. In many situations, this requires an HVAC system checkup and prior landlord approval. Something that you might have to do is to ask permission from your landlord to install a ceiling fan”” if you deem it necessary. Just remember that if you plan to make such changes yourself, any electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician. Other options include a freestanding fan, air purifier, or diffuser. These are less permanent installations and shouldn’t require your landlord’s permission. These can help circulate and freshen the air in your bedroom and keep you deep in restful sleep.
